Abstract

Over the past decades, Mexico has undergone a significant process of economic restructuring, characterised by important structural reforms, privatisation of services and openness to world economy. The country incorporated most of the recommendations of structural adjustment, implementing trade liberalisation and the ‘right macroeconomic policies’ in order to restore macroeconomic balance after years of crises and volatility. Mexico’s experience is very significant and illuminating when it comes to analyse the implications of these policies on the economic system and on its development. © Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) 2015.
