Education for sustainable society should enable young generations to acquire knowledge and skills, and to develop values for solving environmental and social challenges in the coming decades. The aim of the research was to examine the influence of modern ecological programmes on the socio-emotional development of preschool children and determine their contribution to the sensitization of preschoolers to un-derstand the values of a sustainable community. The paper also examines the role of educators and their competences for the realization and introduction of modern ecological-humanistic concepts in the work of preschool institutions. The obtained results suggest that there are differences in the achieved level of adoption of ecological and humanistic values, and values of a sustainable community, among children who have at-tended different educational programmes. At the level of socio-emotional development, statistical significance was not confirmed between different groups of children. The results further suggest that a good-quality curriculum is a necessary but insufficient condition to encour-age socio-emotional development in preschoolers. © 2020, Pedagoska Obzorja d.o.o.
