Paper deals with problems arising from application of the EN 1992-1-1:2004 deflection control clauses. Remarks are addressed both to the instructions for a rigorous method and to the simplified procedure for an indirect check of deflections. It is shown that EC2 span-to-depth ratio limits for indirect check are evaluated for an inappropriate quasi-permanent to ultimate load ratio. The same procedure is adopted in the First complete draft of the fib Model Code 2010. Besides, calculated deflections of the statically indeterminate concrete elements are affected by the redistribution of bending moments caused by cracking, creep and shrinkage of concrete. Use of a moment diagram based on the gross-concrete section may divert the result of rigorous method in a large amount. In such cases, the effort involved with rigorous method is not justified by the quality of obtained result. The results of both procedures are analyzed on numerical examples.
